2 Pole relates to the amount of carrier signals inside the cable/connector assembly, in this case two. The first carrier signal is the information signal and the second is the ground. This can be used to create an unbalanced or mono cable, making it ideal for use with guitars and instruments. It can still be used in balanced sockets but the benefits of balanced audio will not be achieved
